Focus and You Will Excel

“Put 80 percent of your time into your top 2-3 main goals.”

John Maxwell

How many of us get so stretched out that at times we wonder where we are and what we are doing?

Life can get just a bit crazy when we attempt to do too many things and we end up not doing any of them very well.

Today I want to talk about focus and about how we can use this great skill to take our businesses, lives and careers to new levels of success.

The great Andrew Carnegie said it very well in the statement, “Do one thing and do it well.”

In today’s fast-paced, high-energy world we all think we can do it all and then some more. Yet, what we have learned is that those that focus have the greatest success. Andrew Carnegie was one of the richest men of the past, because he was focused.

Three things I want you to focus on today.

1/        Today has all you need to work on right now.

“Tomorrow lies buried within yesterday and I will think of it no more. Concentrate 100% on what you have to deal with today.” – Og Mandino

So many of us worry about the future while we allow today to crumble apart.

You have customers and prospects who you need to focus on today.

You need to call the prospect back and make that appointment.

You need to get that proposal done because it has now been sitting for a week.

Stop chasing that “Shinny Object” and go and work on what will help you right now.

Jesus put it very simple 2000 years ago.

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: For the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” – Matthew 6:34

2/        The process can make you lose your purpose.

“Stay focused on your purpose and don’t get hung up on the process.” – Wayne Barton

You need to generate more business and to do that you have to do more prospecting. Yet you are sitting here thinking about it. Why?

Your purpose is to make 100 calls today because it works.

If you think between each call it is never going to happen.

If you procrastinate between each call it will take you forever.

If you keep hesitating, you will still be here calling when you should be moving forward.

I have seen people spend 30 seconds on a call, but they spend 30 minutes getting ready for it.

Action creates success.

Start taking action and focus on the outcome and you will be amazed at what happens.

Get faster on your feet.

Yes, you need some preparation but not that much.

3/        No one can get them all nor do you want to

“If everyone is your customer, then no one is your customer.” – Tim Ferriss

There is no business where everyone is your prospect.

Everyone could be a prospect, but some are just much better prospects.

Some are just so much more qualified.

Some are just so much closer to wanting to buy.

Stop and remember that the tighter your niche, the greater your chance of success and the larger you can build your business.

Define a tight market.

Identify who they are.

Identify all you can about them.

And then, go for gold – take action.

Focus is the key that will help you be so much more successful.

Stop, focus and then take action.
